Vanaja Cemetery is situated around and near to medieval Vanaja Church which services as the cemetery chapel.
The graveyard consists of three areas of which the oldest is situated around the stone church.
In the newest area are situated the war heroes' graves and memorial for civil war victims. Also the memorial for those who were left in Karelia during the Winter war and Continuation war is in this area.
Rauhanmaa area (Land of Peace) was brought into use in 1977 and the urn and memorial grove was situated here in 2003.
In Swedish Vanaja is Vånå or Wånå, but also Våno and Vanå. Vanaja was a Finnish commune in Kanta-Häme and in 1967 it was divided between Hämeenlinna, Janakkala, Renko and Hattula, communes that after the consolidation of local government areas since Jan. 1, 2009 in most parts belong to Hämeenlinna.
