Leeds County, Ontario
Historical Township South Elmsley
Current Municipality Rideau Lakes
Located off of County Road 1 east of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church and on the opposite side of the highway.
Referred to as Lombard Family Cemetery/Lombardy Cemetery in Ontario Genealogical Society. In Ontario Canadian Headstones as Lombard/Lumbar/Lombardy Family Cemetery
This cemetery is located in a corner of a farm field visible from the road in Lombardy, Leeds, Ontario. I asked permission from the current farmer to view the stones. The cemetery was located on the land that was once owned by Francis Lumbar.
"Lombar" was the spelling in the Historical Atlas of Leeds, census records, and in genealogy records. Lumbar is on the headstones.
Information quoted from the South Elmsley Book, " In 1815 Francis Lombard settled at the corner, which afterwards took the name "Lombards Corners" and was known by this name until 1879. The Lombards were members of the Roman Catholic Congregation in 1832. His first wife died and he married Ann Finlayson. Her faith was Presbyterian. While he remained Catholic, their children were raised Presbyterian." I took pictures of the stones that could be read in this family cemetery. A number have crumbled and are broken. There are probably more people buried here but long forgotten.
