About a mile from ST Onge where the Rough Riders Rodeo was held for many years, the stone is up by one of the buildings on the hill over looking the arena.
Jimmy Irons, Capt Blair and his son and an Indian Scout were putting up hay, they had a fence around the hay and every morning it was down they suspected Indians. A stockade was built because of Indian problems to house the haymaker and equipment. After the group stayed over night they started out for Deadwood. They had been told to stick to the ridges to prevent Indian ambush but they took a chance not far from the stockade and all were killed in an ambush.
John Spaulding was a well known man in this area and he put up the marker for his friend, with the help of Cleophus Cardinal, Cliff Furois and ER Ochner.
