Quaker Burial Ground

Quaker Road & Madaket Roads
Nantucket, Nantucket County, Massachusetts, USA
Memorials 102 added (50% photographed)

This cemetery was established in 1730. It is the second of two Quaker cemeteries on Nantucket. The vast majority of burials are not marked, as Quakers considered them idolatrous. Most interments were identified by field-stones. Robert Lowell's poem, Quaker Graveyard in Nantucket, was written about this burying ground.

The Massachusetts Historical Commission does not refer to this cemetery in MACRIS.

This cemetery is referred to in the book "Vital Records of Nantucket, Massachusetts to 1850", Published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, as G.R.5.
