This cemetery is located just to the west of the Holman Creek bridge on Highway 412. In 1995 Herman Skaggs, the landowner, showed the graves to members of The Madison County Genealogical & Historical society. Only one tombstone was visible with the name "Nancy Bohanan, 17 May 1842" on it. Many years ago, Mr. Skaggs had laid the stones flat on the ground so that he could mow over the site and keep it from growing up. At the time of their visit, it was recorded that there were several tombstones there, which could not be gotten out of the ground. Mr. Skaggs said that he would bring his tractor and turn the stones over so that they could be examined for names. Shortly afterwards Mr. Skaggs became ill and this project was never completed.
A new bridge was built over Holman Creek at this location in 2004. Society members visited this cemetery in August 2004 after the bridge construction had begun. We found several fieldstones marking graves but could not find the tombstone for Nancy Bohannan, which had been photographed in 1995. Society members again visited here in the Spring of 2005 but the Bohannan tombstone wasn't found.
During the highway construction, some dirt work was done in the area of the cemetery and a new fence was constructed. The highway officials had been notified of this cemetery prior to construction but it appears that dirt work was done in the immediate vicinity of the cemetery. Unfortunately it appears that Nancy Bohannan's tombstone was either pushed away or was covered over with this dirt.
