This was a farm cemetery located on NC 43 North of Greenville that became an African-American cemetery because so many former slaves and children were buried there. It was on Sean Drive about 100 yards on the north side of the road, just northwest of the old Howell Center in the edge of the woods. It was also known as the Forbes Cemetery and Moye cemetery. Manassas Forbes was the only white person identified at this cemetery.
This cemetery was on land purchased by East Carolina University to build a dental school in 2008. Over seventy graves were opened and the remains moved to Homestead Cemetery. ECU commissioned a group to try to identify the remains before they were moved. This is that project.
