This memorial rock columbarium is an outcropping of ledge facing south and just to the east of where W. F. Robinson lived in 1892. No one of the Adams or Pfaelzer name appears on the 1892 map of the area, so it must be assumed those families moved here after that date.

When the final leg of Interstate Highway 93 construction was mapped out in the 1970s, it was to pass through here and this ledge was to be blasted away for the highway cut.

Thankfully a Mr. Hoffman reportedly took the case to court, fought for, and won the right for the ashes of these individuals to remain undisturbed. The path of the interstate was slightly moved and now passes about 100 yards north of this ledge.

After the nearby road was discontinued by the interstate, this ledge lay nearly lost in the woods until the more recent construction of a new hospital near it. There is now a maintained "walking path" running from the maintenance garage behind the hospital to the ledge. Someone appears to have planted a white pine seedling near it, apparently in memory of Lt Briggs Adams' tree, the highest around, that inspired him to seek higher things.
