This cemetery is locally called Liztown Cemetery. It is in the area that was once Elizabethtown "Liztown". The town died out when the railroad was built and went through the neighboring town of Colony, Anderson Co., KS instead of Liztown.
All that remains of Liztown today is the cemetery and the old one-room schoolhouse (which was still in use through the late 1920s, possibly into the early 1930s, but is now overgrown by trees and weeds and is falling in).
The cemetery was partially bulldozed in by a farmer before he was stopped and one of the local historical societies attempted to salvage it. A handful of gravestones survived the bulldozing and are still standing. However, many of the stones were broken and destroyed beyond repair, so there are most likely some people buried there who will never be known.
