Hedd Wynnn was born Ellis Humphrey Evans. His Welsh name translated to "Blessed Peace". He was born in Trawsfynydd, Merionethshire, in Wales, one of 11 children. He was the son of Evan and Mary Evans. He was awarded the Bardic Chair at the National Eisteddfod in 1917. The award was posthumous as he was killed 31 July, 1917 near Langemark-Poelkapelle and is buried in Artillery Wood Cemetery, Belgium.
