Goffs Oak is a large village in the borough of Broxbourne in Hertfordshire in England. It is situated between Cuffley and Cheshunt, just north of the M25 motorway in a slightly more rural section of the London commuter belt. The village is named after the Goff family, which owned the area, and symbolised by the original Old Oak, said to be several hundred years old before it fell in 1987 after severe damage during the famous hurricane of 1987. The Jewish Cemetery (Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations – Tel +44 1707 874 220; Fax +44 20 8800 8764) at Silver Street is one of two cemeteries in the area designated for Jews belonging to the Adath Yisroel Congregation-the other is at Carterhatch Lane, Enfield, Middlesex. Nearly every memorial has its inscription in Hebrew on the front and many have just the name in English on the reverse. Most have the dates shown only in the Hebrew Calendar. No flowers or ornaments are permitted in this cemetery * and in accordance with Halachic Regulations, women are not permitted to attend a funeral- they are required to remain in the prayer hall during the interment and service. Cambridge Rd, left at roundabout B198 towards Goffs Oak, left at roundabout onto B156 towards Cuffley, either left at Halstead Hill, right into Silver Street or left into Jones Road, left into Silver Street.
