James Board Dowell and wife Barbara (Shacklett) Dowell and two family members were buried on their farm in Stith Valley. Names and dates were "copied from stones of old Dowell Graveyard on the farm of Burnis Dowell by (Mary) Lucille (Shacklette) Seymour (1911-2006), October 29, 1966."
Sometime following 1966, the headstones disappeared.
These sketches were re-discoverd about 2003 in the family history papers of Charles L. Barnes (1892-1980), grandson of Armstead Barnes (1809-1854) and Elizabeth (Dowell) Barnes (1814-1896). Charles had hired Frances (Shacklett) Fast (1891-1968) to research his family. These sketches were supplied to Larry E. Barnes by Thelma I. (Hickok) Queen (1929-2013), great niece of Charles L. Barnes.
