Griers Presbyterian Church is the oldest organized church still active in Caswell County NC and the oldest established congregation in the Orange Presbytery. Originally known as Upper Hyco (Hico) Meeting House, Griers (Greers) Presbyterian Church was organized in 1753 near the site of Love’s Grist Mill on Panther Creek, a branch of North Hyco Creek. The first church was erected on the site of Griers Cemetery. The church congregation changed its name to Griers Presbyterian Church around 1810. In 1856, Eldridge G. Mitchell and other trustees purchased the present site and built the “Greek Revival temple-form” church which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. The cemetery, located behind the church is well maintained and still in use today. The first known burial in the church cemetery is 1890.
