According to 1905's "Historic Camden" by Thomas J. Kirkland and Robert M. Kennedy, Cornwallis House was at Lyttleton Street's southern end. So named because the British used it as a headquarters during the Revolution, by the time of the Civil War it had been an orphanage and was a Confederate storehouse when it was burned to keep its supplies from the advancing Union Army. It was reconstructed in 1977 and is now operated as the Kershaw-Cornwallis House Historic Site.
