L.L.H. Crail, a farmer, school director and township auditor, was born in Raccoon Township in 1831. He was the son of Sethelius Middleton and Sarah B (Guthrie) Crail who raised their 5 children on the farm, which passed into the hands of L.L. H. Crail. When L.L.H. owned the farm it was composed of 160 acres of the original tract of 245 acres. In 1857, he married Elizabeth Christler, daughter of John Christler.
