Naman Hardman deeded two acres and donated the land for the cemetery to his Primitive Baptist Church on November 19, 1825. The Church was known as Christ Church of Hardman Meeting House, and was land from the Cherokee and Creek Nations. The first Church was a log house with dirt floors and wooden shutters. The Church and Cemetery is steep in history being one of the first Churches of any denomination in Dekalb County. While not charter members, Chapman and Betsy Powell were early church leaders. Naman and Joicy Hardman left the church and moved to Cobb Co. in 1842, after selling their property to Chapman Powell.

The Hardman Cemetery has been designated a Historical location by the Dekalb Historical Society and is now on the Emory Campus.

In the heat of the Battle of Atlanta the Church building and land were used as a Field Hospital for General Sherman's Army. The General resided in Oliver Powell's home a short distance from the old Church while planning the march into Atlanta and South. A decade after the war Elder Elijah Webb gave land south of Decatur for the Church to relocate. The Church and present Cemetery is at 3965 Glenwood Road near Columbia Drive. The Church now known as Hardeman Primitive Baptist Church will celebrate the 186TH year Anniversary in November 2011.
