This cemetery is operated and maintained by Highland Council with the register and plans kept (2008) at the Service Point located in the old police station at the north end of The Square, Grantown-on-Spey.

It was brought into use in 1908.

This cemetery replaced Inverallan Cemetery for most new lairs since that date but not for burials in available lairs.

The cemetery has two entrances:-
1-At the higher (north) level where the older lairs and those in use from the late 1980s are located. The driveway leaves the main road between the Inverallan roundabout and Grantown-on-Spey.
2-At the lower (south) level where lairs brought into use from the 1960s to the 1980s are on a south-facing steep slope. The entrance gates lead off from a lay-by on the Grantown by-pass road which runs from Inverallan roundabout direct to the New Spey Bridge.
