Beaverdam Cemetery is one of the oldest cemeteries in Hanover County, Virginia, believed to have been established by the late 1700s. There are 27 marked graves of the Fontaine family, with the earliest marked grave that of Elizabeth Winston Fontaine (1734-1810), wife of Peter Fontaine Jr. (1724-1773). They were the first Fontaines at the Beaverdam property. The most recent grave is that of Joseph Morris Fontaine, son of James and Juliet Fontaine, who died in 1915. There may be other unmarked graves, including the possible grave of Barbara Overton Winston (1690-1766) wife of William Winston.
The cemetery is located on private property at 16498 Tyler Station Road, Beaverdam VA 23015-1201. Please note that permission is required to visit the property.
GPS for the address goes to the intersection of Tyler Station Road (Rt. 658) and Woodsons Mill Road (Rt. 680) which is not correct. The gravel drive to the house and cemetery is 0.1 miles to the east of this intersection, its entrance is directly across the road from a red brick house.
