The Cotton Family Cemetery (7198) was commonly referred to as the Cotton Farm or simply Cotton Cemetery in the early part of the 20th century. This is a very small and private cemetery. As of November 2008, all of the stones are lying flat. This cemetery appears to have begun around 1830-31 and was last used around 1911. Baldwin's Inscriptions, specifically Vol. 40, provides some data in relation to this cemetery.
In conducting any genealogical research on the Cotton Family, you will discover that John and Lucy Cotton migrated from Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, to this area with their children. Most appear to have been born in Massachusetts before moving here. John is known to have at least the following children: Theophilus, Lucy L., Joshua T., John Jr., and Katherine. The younger Theophilus and Katherine Cotton are buried in the Cotton Family Cemetery. Whereas, Lucy L., Joshua, and John moved to other parts of the country and died there. (Lucy to DeWitt, Iowa; Joshua to Ossian, Indiana; and John also to DeWitt, Iowa)
