Sassamansville Church was built in 1837 by Henry Sassaman. It was a union Reformed and Lutheran church.
A burial ground was established at the same time, immediately in back of the chuch.
In 1897, the Lutherans built their own church, St. Paul's, just up the road. The church was now exclusive to the Reformed congregation. The chuch was eventually torn down and the Reformed congregation moved to a location outside of the village.
The cemetery became known as the Reformed cemetery.
