This small family cemetery for five of the Kennicott family members is on the grounds of The Grove, southwest of the home.
The Grove is the ancestral home of Dr. John Kennicott and his descendants.
In 1836 the Kennicotts, a pioneer family, moved to the Midwest and settled at The Grove. The family helped to develop Illinois through horticultural and natural history research. In 1856 the Kennicotts built their house in a Gothic Revival style of architecture. The Grove was designated Grove National Historic Landmark in 1976 and is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
The Grove today consists of about 143 acres including the Kennicott House, the Redfield Estate, the Interpretive Center, the 1853 Grove Schoolhouse (replica), the Log Cabin, Kennicott Archives and many nature trails through prairie and woods.
The Grove is open to the public, phone number 847-299-6096.
