Liverpool Cathedral is the UK's largest cathedral with the highest and widest Gothic arches in the world. It was built by the architect Giles Gilbert Scott, then 22 year-old and with little experience, whose design won the competition of 103 entries. The Foundation Stone was laid by King Edward VII on 19 July 1904 and the main part of the Cathedral was consecrated 20 years to the day after.
