Location: Tucson, Pima, Arizona
Los Fuertenos (the people of the fort) settled in and around Fort Lowell during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The descendants of the Fuertenos who grew up in what is now known as the Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood are the only person permitted to be buried in the this cemetery, which is located on Laurel St and Fort Lowell Road. Burial rights are restricted to the Diaz, Lujan, Ochoa, Jacobo, Perez, Martinez, Casteldeoro, Garcia, Domingo families. The graves are hand-dug in the hard earth by family members. The site may have been used as a burial ground by native peoples before the early settlers arrived.
