The beginnings of the United Presbyterian church came in 1848 with the organization of an Associate Reformed congregation by Lake Erie Presbytery. Since 1840 preaching services were conducted in the log cabins of the early settlers. The original building on the Cherry Street was built in 1852 with donated labor at a cost of $350 and a Sabbath School was begun. Following the union of the Associate Reformed and Associate Presbyterian denominations, the church became known as the United Presbyterian Church. "
This original building was razed in 1883 and a new structure was built. This latter building was torn down years ago so that only the cemetery on Cherry Street remains as the only evidence of the Worthington United Presbyterian Church.
