Campion-Wright Cemetery

A pioneer burying ground dating back to 1804, this cemetery is no longer visible. It was located on the west side on Union Street in the village of Spencerport and was bulldozed when the land changed hands in 1955. The selling landowner claimed in a newspaper article at the time that she considered the uproar over the cemetery's destruction "a joke" as she had offered the cemetery to the local historical society, who did not take her up on the offer. Although no trace of the cemetery remains above ground, the actual burials are believed to still be in situ. The known burials are from a list of tombstone transcriptions made by the Irondequoit Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1934.
