There is documentation of a church on the site as far back as the 13th century. The church was refurbished a few times over the years, when in 1873 it was demolished and the present church was built on the site. The church had a churchyard that surround the church but it quickly became full and all burials not in family plots stopped after 1863. In 1807, land was purchased in Park Street and used as a detached burial ground that was closed to public burials in 1873 (except for vaults and walled graves). There is no distinction between burials at the two locations in the church burial records. Under the Birmingham Closed Burial Grounds Act of 1878, Park Street Burial Ground was converted into a recreation ground. Under the Birmingham Corporation Act of 1954 all remains of Park Street burials were to be removed. In 2019, Archaeologists excavated 6,500 skeletons from Park Street, to make way for the HS2, were the remains were re-interred at Witton Cemetery. Archaeologists have also excavated the area around the church several times, re-interring those remains at Witton Cemetery, too. The churchyard is now surrounded by concrete and Park Street Burial Ground will soon be covered by the new HS2 Station.
