In 1912, four Benedictine nuns established a religious community in Winnipeg, teaching at the Holy Ghost School and opening an orphanage. In 1915, their orphanage was transferred to Arborg, MB. In 1961, a new Priory was built in the RM of West St Paul.

Established in 1919, the cemetery was originally located at Arborg, where the Priory was. In 1960-61, the Priory was moved to its present location. The existing graves were exhumed and moved to West St Paul, and the vocation of the institution was changed from Priory to Monastery.

In the Rural Municipality of West St Paul
As noted above, a part of the community's story and those of its participants from its inception through roughly 1989 is told in the volume "The Changing Scene - A History of West St Paul", especially starting on page 62. A free digital version of this and many other Manitoba local history books can be found online in the University of Manitoba Digital Collections. There is also a list of such books organized by district and town name on the Manitoba Historical Society's website on their page entitled "Finding Aid: Manitoba Local History Books".
A list of burials in this cemetery is available from the Manitoba Genealogical Society (reference #0333), transcribed by a member or members in 1988 and updated in 1999. Also available to MGS members is a searchable online database named the "MGS Manitoba Name Index" (or MANI). Some additional information is contained in the 1996 MGS publication "Carved in Stone: Manitoba Cemeteries and Burial Sites" (revised edition, Special Projects Publication, 106 pages).
