Old Presbyterian Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in the city of Waynesboro. It was established in 1798 on a hillside that is now located just behind The Purple Foot Restaurant on Broad Street. It is believed that some burials may have occurred on the site even before 1798. The land was donated by James Flack, a local developer of that time.
In the center of the hillside, a church was built by a small Presbyterian congregation and shared by a Methodist group. In 1824 the Methodists built their own church and the Presbyterians replaced the log church with a brick church. In time the brick structure was removed with some of the bricks used to build a larger church in town.
In 1935 ownership was transferred to the city of Waynesboro and in 2002 the Waynesboro Historical Commission took over the project of restoring the cemetery with the identification of gravestones and the location of gravesites. It is hoped by the Commission that the information and restoration of the cemetery will bring some lasting significance for Waynesboro.
