The Conway is a family cemetery that lies just east of Pond Creek. The gate is not locked but there are signs advising “private property” and “No Tresspassing” signs are also posted. The cemetery, located some 500 feet off Conway Road is at the end of a grassy path. The area covers about 1/2 acre of land that is well kept and the open space is surrounded by pine and oak trees. There is limited parking at the gate, but within the cemetery there is ample space for many vehicles.
To visit the Conway Family Cemetery if driving from the City of Atmore, Alabama, follow CR-27 to it’s junction with CR-45 (Butler Street). Turn left onto CR-45 for a distance of about 2.0 miles. Just before reaching the I-65 overpass, turn left onto Conway Road (hard red clay) and drive another 2.1 miles to the cemetery gates. One landmark along CR-45 is the Miller Cemetery on the right.
If coming from I-65, take Exsit #69 and head south. Just beyond the Yellow Hammer truckers area turn right onto the next blacktop (this will be CR-27, aka known as Old Atmore Highway, or CR 17). Drive a distance of about 4.7 miles to the community known locally at Stanley Crossroads. At Stanley turn right onto CR-27 and go a distance of about 3.2 miles to CR-45. Turn right onto CR-45 and follow the above directions to the cemetery.
