This roadside grave is found in the Tonto National Forest in Gila County just a short distance from Young, AZ and is easily found. Just before entering Young on Forest Road 512 from Arizona 260, 512 becomes Arizona 288. Look for a gravel road labeled Forest Road 200 and it only goes to the right. Turn right and the grave is almost exactly one mile on the left. The grave and the sign are down an embankment from the road and the sign is very visible. Not so the grave until you stop the vehicle and find it under a tree just left of the sign.
It is also possible to reach the grave coming from Payson by taking the Colcord Road and Chamberlain Trail. Both are Forest Road 200. The grave will be one mile before AZ 288 on the right.
If you are coming from the Lake Roosevelt Area, take AZ 288 all the way through Young and look for FR 200 or Chamberlain Trail to the left.
No matter how you go, it is a beautiful, mountain, tall pine, scenic road. But all gravel and very rough in places, except where 288 is paved for a few miles each side of Young.
The third weekend of July is Pleasant Valley Days in Young and the museums and ranches from the war are open to the public.
