Kilronan Abbey

Keadue, County Roscommon, Ireland
Memorials 119 added (54% photographed)

The graveyard is centred around the ruins of a 14th century church, which itself was built upon the ruins of an Abbey founded in the 6th century by St Ronan and his daughter St Lasair, whose holy well lies across the road on the shores of the Lough Meelagh. In 1860 work commenced on the successor Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary in Keadue village, which remains the parish church to this day.
Turlough O'Carolan, the last of the Irish Bards, was buried here in the McDermott Roe family crypt. The well maintained graveyard now also includes a modern cemetery extension.
