St. Stephen's Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ) was founded in the mid-1880's. The charter was filed in the Bucks County court on February 17, 1886 by subscribers Mahlon H. Myers, Joseph G. Moyer, Isaac Groff, Zachariah T. Waltz and Edwin Wambold, all from Perkasie. The original minister was Rev. J.G. Dengler and the original trustees were Mahlon M. Myers, Joseph G. Moyer and Isaac Groff.

On April 1, 1887, Joseph A. and Mary Hendricks sold to the trustees of St. Stephen's Reformed Church the tract of land on which the St. Stephen's Cemetery is situate. This plot of 4 acres "known as the Perkaie Cemetery" had been purchased by Joseph and Mary from Benjamin A. and Susanna Hendricks on March 30, 1874, as part of a larger plot of 12 acres. It appears that about 14 children had been buried in the cemetery before 1887.
