The property was purchased from Richard Collier in the early 1860's. Wm Anderson, Thos Jones, Thos Davis and S.E. Legate were delegated to lay out the plans and did so in the form of a cross and each section named for one of the Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
