This cemetery is one of the lost cemeteries of Fayette County, Alabama. When the authors of the book: Cemeteries of Fayette County, Alabama, were surveying cemeteries in 1959 they were not able to find the Brown Cemetery. It is listed on the Map of Cemeteries in Fayette County. The main road leading to this cemetery has a bridge out and you can not travel to the cemetery that way. The only way in is through back, narrow, winding, dirt roads and crossing Turkey Creek.
According to one death record of an individual that is buried there, this cemetery is also known as Thornton Cemetery. This is an African-American Cemetery. Most of the graves that are still marked and fairly readable are of one family.
