A monument dedicated to Brubacher and his wife, Catherine Martin, was erected in this section of the cemetery in 1975.
By the early 1870s, burials were made in a newer section, just to the north of the original graveyard. These graves were arranged in rows perpendicular to the original seven rows, thereby conforming to the tradition of having burials face east.
Several of the inscriptions on older gravestones are in German, the language of early generations of Mennonites in the region.
In 1915, the congregation built a church in the town of St. Jacobs and changed its name to Saint Jacobs Mennonite Church. The cemetery was renamed accordingly. (The “Conestoga” name was retained by the Old Order Mennonites, a offshoot of the original congregation, who worship at the nearby Conestoga meetinghouse built in 1892.)
The cemetery was expanded again in the early 1960s with a section south of the original graveyard.
