In the early 1940s, Rev. Amandus S. Leiby, Pastor of St. Peter's Reformed Congregation took on the task of going through the oldest sections of the cemetery and copying the inscriptions on the gravestones, row by row. The records of his work can be found in the Marx Room at the Easton Area Public Library. He listed that there could be errors due to wear of the gravestones but he tried to use the best light to provide an accurate record. He found evidence that many were buried, at that time with no markers and may never have had any.
Sometime before his recording the cemetery had been neglected for many years with even sheep grazing to keep down the grass and weeds. A movement among the congregation was made to clean up and improve the cemetery. The congregation cleaned up the cemetery and all the gravestones found were set in straight rows and each marker was set in cement. This is how the oldest section currently looks today, with straight rows of gravestones standing and how the Rev. Leiby created the records of the gravestones he found in the 1940's.
