The New Springfield Baptist Church was organized in the year 1867. The church was led by Rev. L. B. Carter who had once served as pastor of the historic Springfield Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia from which this church received its name.
Sister Rachel Young was given this location for Christian worship. The first worship service was held outside in a brush arbor. The first building was a small log house.
The smaller cemetery is personal property purchased by several families of New Springfield Baptist Church. Each family after purchasing their property (section) had it cordoned off as appropriate. This smaller cemetery (cordoned off family sections) is not part of New Springfield Baptist Church property or the official New Springfield Baptist Church cemetery. However this smaller cemetery is adjacent to the NSBC property line, The smaller cemetery is owned, controlled, and maintained by each individual family located here.
