This family burial site is located on a land claim originally filed by Moses Looney, son of George M Looney. Current property owners were able to find the one handmade marker for Susan DeVault Looney who died in 1870. From family records and historian, Larry Johnson, the earliest burials were about 1870. Bosque County cemetery records from the late 70s identified six small stone-marked graves, all in a row, believed to be Spencer children. There were other Looney families who settled early in Bosque County, and one was the contractor for the county courthouse. It is believed that this family graveyard is either on or in close proximity to what was called the Cove Springs School. This area is also in close proximity to the Spring Creek Cemetery in which other Looney families are buried. At this time, no other markers have been found and the site is on private property, in a pasture and on the Spring Creek bottomland.
Cove Springs School was consolidated with the Cranfills Gap School in 1937. The Dell community was later known as Cove or Cove Springs.
