Latona Cemetery Lot 5 Concession 1 EGR
The land for Latona Cemetery was set aside for a school and a public burying ground in 1862 although it may have been in use for many years before that. The land was donated by Duncan Smith. The earliest date on any stone is 1843. In 1967, the small gray slab stones were taken to the back of the Cemetery and put in cement to form the shape of a cross. A slab, donated by Nicol & Corbett, Mt Forest, and an inscription was written, placed in the Centre of the cross and reads-“ In memory of the Pioneers interred in this Cemetery.” Many of these stones are for children.
The Cemetery is approx 12 Kms north of Durham on Highway 6, the fire number is 314861
