The organizing committee for Gananoque's second cemetery was formed in October 1856. The only suitable site was contracted for purchase from John Bowie in March 1857 and by November 1858 subscribers were allowed to pick their lots.

This 5 ¼ acres was originally part of Crown Grant to a Mary (Klein) Loede as a United Empire Loyalist. She was married to Johan Gotlieb Loede (later Lloyd) and a privately owned Lloyd Family Section is within this cemetery. Lloyds were buried on the property from the 1820s, but not well documented. In 1934 The King's Hwy was widened and the first row of graves along its north side were moved to the back of the cemetery. Additional land has been incorporated. Founder of Gananoque Colonel Joel Stone and his wife Abigail are buried here.



The cemetery is open and managed as a not-for-profit organization.
