The first town cemetery stands to the north of the original Parish Meetinghouse. It extends northerly to a line that runs to the south of the Lawrence lot and easterly to the second north-south cemetery driveway.

The two acres for both the Meetinghouse and the burying ground were probably donated to the parish in 1746 by William Tarbell and (?) Lawrence, selectmen at the time. However, the deeds were not registered at the Middlesex County Courthouse in Cambridge. Votes for the upkeep of the cemetery were taken in town meetings of March 7 and May 29, 1753, and March 26, 1755. The cemetery is maintained by the elected Cemetery Commissioners of the Town.

The Walton Cemetery is beside the Pepperell Cemetery.

There are approximately 351 gravestones in the older front section and about 520 in the newer rear section. The earliest death date is Sept. 12, 1750.

The Massachusetts Historical Commission refers to this cemetery in MACRIS as PEP.800 Walton Cemetery.

This cemetery is referred to as GR1 Walton Cemetery, Park St in the "Vital Records of Pepperell Massachusetts to the end of the year 1849."
