The first known survey of this cemetery was done by noted genealogist Dr. Allan E. Marble on May 21, 1967. Per his usual procedure, he did not give the cemetery a name but instead assigned it an identifying number. For this cemetery, the number was 41. He recorded the location as Gibson Lake.

At a later date, Genweb volunteers transcribed Dr. Marble's survey notes and made them available online at Rootsweb. At that time, the volunteers named it "Gibson Lake Cemetery" but, in the Rootsweb cemetery index, they listed the name simply as “Gibson Lake”. They recorded the location as West Dalhousie.

Dr. Marble transcribed 97 headstones containing 178 inscriptions. The oldest identifiable stone is from 1846. This is an active cemetery, so the number of headstones is now greater than Dr. Marble’s count in 1967. He noted that the cemetery was in good condition.

DIRECTIONS: The church and cemetery, which overlook Gibsons Lake in West Dalhousie, are located on the north side West Dalhousie Road, at Civic #3335. From West Dalhousie the paved road becomes a narrow, gravel road suitable for summer travel only.
