Postal Address: Old Soldiers Cemetery Association, PO Box 939, Mount Jackson, Va 22842
The cemetery was dedicated on the third anniversary of Stonewall Jackson's death, May 10, 1866 and is located directly across what was known as Valley Pike and the Confederate Hospital located there. Containing about 400 graves, the "Memorial and Decoration Day" consisted of 400 wreaths carried three quarters of a mile by a parade of local ladies, gentlemen and children as well as ex-Confederate soldiers. Graves are mostly unmarked, except for three stones located in the front right corner. Today, all 408 soldiers have been indentified and include the following numbers by State: Alabama 43, Florida 5, Georgia 87, Louisiana 10, Maryland 4, Mississippi 5, North Carolina 137, South Carolina 33, Tennessee 4, Texas 1, and Virginia 79. The cemetery, and those buried there, are watched over 24 hours a day by the 3rd National Flag of the Confederacy.
