Catholic Cemetery

Located at 3500 Lake Ave. Fort Wayne, IN. Years ago, the original Catholic Cemetery was on Cathedral Square. There arose a need for a larger cemetery. The next cemetery was located on Swinney Ave. After only 29 years the need arose for another larger location. In 1872, Bishop Dwenger purchased 120 acres, one mile outside the city limits of Fort Wayne. The bodies have been removed from the other two cemeteries into the present location. The cemetery was then opened for interments in 1873.

This Roman Catholic cemetery is owned and operated by the Catholic Cemetery Association, Inc. for the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. The Catholic Cemetery Association, Inc. also operates the Saint Leo Catholic Cemetery in Leo, Indiana and the Saint Michael Catholic Cemetery at Pierr Settlement in the northeast corner of Fort Wayne. The cemetery is located in Adams Township on the south side of Lake Avenue at its intersection with White Oak Drive . The cemetery is 175 acres in size. The office is located on the cemetery grounds on the southwest corner of the intersection of Lake Avenue and White Oak Drive.

For information on burials in the cemetery from 1873 to 1993, the cemetery website refers readers to the Catholic Cemetery database in the Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
