Access to the Mallet Memorial Cemetery is located on the east side of Clark Road, just south of Savage Road. Two masonry pillars designate the rural entrance lane, with bronze plaques etched with the cemetery name and established date.

Located in Section 7, of the northwest corner of Huron Township, Wayne County, Michigan; the land owned and homesteaded by the Eli Mallet and his family, was granted to him for his service in the war of 1812.

The cemetery was first established in 1825, when Eli, his wife, Rachel, and their young daughter – all died within months of each other. The daughter died on August 10th, the mother on August 18th and the father, on September 12th.

At that time, grounds were known simply as the "Mallett Family Burying Grounds”. In 1840, Edmond N Mallett, surviving son of Eli and Rachel Mallett, donated the land to the township for use as a public cemetery. By 1860 it was officially claimed by the state and renamed the "Mallett Memorial Cemetery".

In the year 1900, the northeast section of the Mallett grounds, began to be used by St Stephen's Catholic Church members with funeral rites performed by the church. A metal gateway arch was erected at the Savage Road entrance lane that runs through the section, and thus designated as the St Stephen's Cemetery - even though it was not actually a separate cemetery at the time.

Eventually, by the mid-2000's, the Catholic Diocese officially took over the care and maintenance of their section of the Mallett grounds. They have since paved their Savage Road entrance lane and replaced the old arched entrance gate with a painted wooden sign.

The remaining area of the grounds is still owned by the township, bearing its original designation as the Mallett Memorial Cemetery.
