This cemetery was established on the William A. Willis Donation Land Claim in 1858 when his son William J. died.

The Willis family arrived in Douglas Co., Oregon in 1852, traveling from Missouri on the Oregon Trail & Applegate Trail with his wife Virginia Caroline Gilmore Willis' parents and extended family.

In later years, the property was purchased by Frank & Clara Hahn and the cemetery became known as the "Hahn Cemetery".

Later, their son James Stephen passed away and was buried in the family cemetery as were William A. & Virginia Willis when they passed away.

Through the years, the cemetery was forgotten and is currently totally buried under blackberry canes. The current landowners periodically clear back a bit of the canes and one can still see the iron fence encircled about the l'l cemetery. Hopefully, someday the blackberry canes will be eradicated and once again the headstones will stand upright.

When the cemetery was first created, it was in the middle of an orchard. The orchard no longer exists and the cemetery is in the middle of a field. Currently, in 2013, sheep graze in the field.

The Hahn Cemetery is classified with the State of Oregon as an "historic cemetery."

The contributor of this cemetery page is related to the Gilmore and Willis family by virtue of the fact that Virginia Caroline Gilmore Willis' mother was the sister of the contributor's 2-great-grandmother.

The contributor's grandfather lived with the Willis family for awhile and is listed with the family in the 1880 U.S. Census for Douglas Co., Oregon. He and Virginia were cousins.

Out of respect for the property owners where the cemetery is located, no map or directions to the cemetery will be provided unless you contact the contributor who manages the memorials contained in this cemetery.

The last noted time the cemetery was completely viewable was Aug. 1988 when the cemetery was inventoried by the Genealogical Society of Douglas County.
