Search Scone Abbey:

A house of Augustinian canons based at Scone, Perthshire founded between 1114 and 1122, run by Prior Robert, who was the first prior of Scone and later Bishop of St Andrews. During the reign of King Máel Coluim IV, 1163 or 1164, the priory became an important abbey, housing the coronation stone and the chief residence of Scottish kings.. It was largely destroyed by a mob in 1559, sold and the old abbey made into a grand residence in conjunction with the Huntingtower Castle estate.. The precise location of the abbey still remains a mystery.
