The cemetery is located in Madison Township on the east side of Michigan Road east of Craig Cemetery. The cemetery was originally located in Monroe Township but was moved when the land was acquired for the Jefferson Proving Ground. The first known burial occurred in 1819.
Indiana Cemetery Locations, Volume 4, published by the Indiana Genealogical Society (April 2009), gives the primary cemetery name as Mount Monroe Cemetery with alternate names of Mount Zion Cemetery and Pilgrim Holiness Cemetery.
The cemetery is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and in the State Historical Architectural and Archaeological Research Database (SHAARD) with Cemetery Record Number CR-39-126 (Mount Monroe).
