Pilgrim Baptist Church, organized in 1837, is one of the oldest churches in Alexander County NC. The church originally known as "BIG SPRING" was first located a couple of miles from the present location.
Howell Baker, a charter member, donated land for a church and suggested the name "PILGRIM" for it The name was changed to "PILGRIM" in April 1857. The first church was a log building and later a frame building was erected. In 1948 a new brick church was built. There have been other changes and additions over the past years.
Edward Chaffin is recorded as the first pastor of the church.
