A small cemetery of the Ferris Family, who had large landholdings in the area starting in 1667, and owned what is now Westchester Square in the 1830s. Benjamin Ferris reserved the family burial ground in his will dated 1777. The cemetery is overgrown and neglected.



Various records have been consulted (2019) to reconstruct the history of the burial ground.



During the 1880's, the burial ground consisted of around 29 in-ground burials and two family vaults.

The James Ferris family tomb (northside of the graveyard) contained at least 2 caskets.

The Benjamin Ferris family vault (eastside of the graveyard) contained 13 caskets.



Around 1890, remains from the James Ferris Vault were removed and reinterred at Woodlawn Cemetery and Trinity Churchyard. James Ferris (1734-1780) and his wife, Charity Thomas Ferris (1734-1809) were reinterred at Woodlawn Cemetery (Mrs. Hicks plot). Concerning the identify of the remains removed and reinterred at Trinity Churchyard, research continues (2019).



In 1921, an inventory of local cemeteries was conducted by Francis F. Spies. One section of the report lists the inventory of the ‘Ferris Family Yard and Tombs'. A copy of the inventory is at the New York Public Library. The inventory lists: (29) individual burials and, in the Benjamin Ferris Tomb, (1) identified individual and (12) unidentified caskets are listed.



In 1928, vandals broke in to the Benjamin Ferris vault and desecrated the remains within the caskets. On 5 JUL 1928, the bodies of 15 family members were removed and reinterred at Kensico Cemetery (Cemetery ID#64995) in Valhalla, Westchester County, NY.
