This is one of the oldest Episcopal churches in Maryland being one of the original 30 churches chartered in the Province of Maryland by the Colonial Assembly in 1692. The original log church was replaced with brick construction starting in 1732. There are some 18th century stones in the cemetery. The distant ancestors of Mrs. Julia Dent Grant, wife of General U. S. Grant, were the first couple whose marriage was recorded in this parish's register - ca. 1670s.
